San Francisco, CA (May 20, 2015) – The Center for Youth Wellness (CYW), a nationally recognized organization with a mission to improve the health of children and youth exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences, announced today the hire of Mark Cloutier as the organization’s first Executive Director.
Founded in 2012, the Center for Youth Wellness seeks to transform the way pediatric medicine and society as a whole addresses Adverse Childhood Experiences as a root cause of chronic disease such as heart disease and cancer. Cloutier, who joins the organization on May 20, 2015, will work with the Center for Youth Wellness’ CEO and Founder Dr. Nadine Burke Harris to implement the organization’s three-year strategic plan and build the platform for future success.
“We are so fortunate to have Mark joining our leadership team during this critical time in the movement,” said Dr. Burke Harris. “He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in public health and organizational development, as well as a deep understanding and commitment to improve the health outcomes of children and youth exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences.”
Formerly the Regional CEO of the American Red Cross Northern California Coastal Region, Cloutier will run the day-to-day operations of the Center for Youth Wellness and provide leadership and direction to the organization’s financial and programmatic goals. As the former Board Chair for the Center for Youth Wellness, Cloutier has hit the ground running naming his top three priorities: creating the evidentiary basis for physical and mental health outcomes, advancing public policies to support Adverse Childhood Experiences based screening and treatment, and expanding the platform for the organization’s continued growth.
“Joining the Center for Youth Wellness is a culmination of my life’s work serving vulnerable communities and creating policy advocacy and community engagement strategies as vehicles for social change,” said Cloutier. “I have the deepest respect for Dr. Nadine Burke Harris and the staff of the Center for Youth Wellness who, along with collaborators and partners, have sparked a movement across the nation. I look forward to working with the staff, the Board of Directors and our community partners.”
Led by founder and CEO Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, the Center for Youth Wellness was created in response to an urgent public health issue of early adversity harming the developing brains and bodies of children. The organization is located in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco and works with pediatric partner Bayview Child Health Center to screen for Adverse Childhood Experiences, pilot treatments for toxic stress and raise awareness nationally among parents, pediatricians to policymakers.
